Manchester United Diogo Dalot has admitted being named their Player of the Year was a ‘special honour’, admitting he thinks he’s in the best period of his career.

O Jogo cover comments from the full-back today as he appeared at a pre-match press conference for Portugal ahead of their start to Euro 2024.

The defender will likely be a key player for his country at the tournament in Germany after an impressive season with Manchester United, despite their troubles.

The 25-year-old has established himself as the first choice right-back under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, and proved worthy of that place, with three goals and five assists in 50 games in all appearances this season an improvement on his two goals and two assists in 42 games last season.

He’s very much a key player for the club and his form was recognised at the end of the season as he was named Manchester United’s Player’s Player of the Season.

That award is voted for by his fellow professionals and that means something extra for Dalot, who admits he may be in the peak period of his career.

“Individual trophies always end up being positive, in my case it gives me more confidence, more motivation,” he said.

“This recognition from my colleagues, from those who see me all, was great. every day, for who I suffer and with whom I celebrate. It’s a special honour.

“I think so (it’s the best bit), in individual terms. My career has been progressive. I don’t hide that it’s a good moment, perhaps the best in my career. But it’s worth it.

“If I don’t continue to demonstrate that I deserve to play… The work continues, day by day, in the same way to be able to continue with the level of fitness that I have been demonstrating.”
