To be fair, it couldn’t be ignored. Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez is being mentioned all over the Chilean media, as he has broken up with actress Mayte Rodriguez.
The breakup got a little attention from the English press yesterday, as the player has chosen to announce it with a video posted on his Instagram.
But that was not what attracted the Chilean media. The fact that the two are local celebrities is enough to be a big story, and newspaper La Cuarta had its cover and a two-page article giving ten reasons why the couple split up.
We won’t be covering the ten reasons here, but there are two topics that relate the breakup with his career at Manchester United. That’s where, thank God, football is introduced in this story.Reason number two claims that some days ago, Alexis Sanchez has bought a new house in Manchester.
Although for United fans it should mean that he’s planning to stay for a long time, it didn’t go well with Mayte, who doesn’t want to leave Chile at the moment.
Now when we tweeted Alexis’ video yesterday, many replies said ‘that’s why he’s playing badly for Man United’. But La Cuarta actually believes it’s the opposite.
In reason number eight, the newspaper writes that ‘Alexis does not go through good form in his football club, something that would have also influenced his relationship with Mayte’.
So although fans hope Alexis now focus on Manchester United, it seems that in Chile it’s believed that José Mourinho’s football is ending relationships around the world.
