Manchester United have a long record of signing players from Portuguese football.

In the past there’s been players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Anderson and Nani, and the current squad has Marcos Rojo, Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof and, of course, new hero Bruno Fernandes.

Those players came from Sporting, Porto and Benfica, and United continue to scout all three, looking for the next market opportunity.

O Jogo reports that on Saturday evening, Manchester United had officials at matches featuring both Benfica and Porto.

The Lisbon club drew 1-1 with Setubal, whilst Porto drew 1-1 with Rio Ave.

This time there weren’t really any standout performances from either team for the Old Trafford spies to write home about, and the scouting is a long term effort to make sure Manchester United are well informed ahead of potential business.

It’s clear that Portuguese interest hasn’t ended with the arrival of Bruno Fernandes, and the Premier League club will continue to be keen on a market which has been repeatedly used.

Despite reported interest from Chelsea in Alex Telles, Manchester United were the only English club at Porto’s match, whilst they had Nottingham Forest for company when watching Benfica.
