On May 2nd, we covered claims from Spain that Manchester United have informed Ronald Araújo’s entourage of their desire to make an offer, if he decides to leave Barcelona.
A week later, Mundo Deportivo reported the Red Devils are ‘on the prowl’ for the centre-back.
Tuesday’s edition of Sport has a report on the 25-year-old’s future and Manchester United are mentioned.
The Uruguay international, who has a deal until 2026, is a key player at the Camp Nou and the La Liga side want to further extend his contract.
He hasn’t responded yet after Xavi Hernández’s side offered him an improved deal in February. Although this offer doesn’t drastically improve his salary, Barca insist it’s ‘more than worthy’.
Barca president Joan Laporta has held direct talks with the defender to convince him, and Araújo himself must decide on whether or not to sign an extension.
Sport insist the Catalan club aren’t bluffing when they say this is their final offer, and they want the player to respond this week, ‘for better or worse’.
Araújo wants to continue but that isn’t the case with his entourage, considering there’s interest from Manchester United and Bayern Munich which tempts them.
Without a renewal, they have decided to sell him in the next window and this could come as encouragement for Manchester United.
Aston Villa are also being linked this week.
