Saúl Ñíguez has been linked with Manchester United since David Moyes was in charge of the club and seemingly looking for any Spanish midfielder he could get his hands on.
That was as the player was coming through the ranks at Atletico Madrid, and now at 26-years-of-age he should be in the prime of his career.
Unfortunately, things aren’t currently working out that way, and the player is fighting to get back to his best form, with his role as an undisputed starter under serious threat.
He’s been edged out of the team on occasions recently and that’s seen rumours emerge about his future, and those rumours have inevitably involved Manchester United.
A few days ago we covered a report from Spain which stated the Premier League club are ready to spend €30-35m to sign Saúl. That was considered low given his release clause is €150m, but that figures around €30m are even being mentioned shows how far the player’s star has fallen.
According to the report, Saúl is going through the ‘most delicate moment’ of his career, with Simeone standing by his man and trying to protect him from anything said outside of Atletico.
The manager has tried to calm the growing story during a press conference, however, if the struggles go on then the Spanish media will continue to put doubt on the player’s future.
