Manchester United’s chance of signing Cody Gakpo are now ‘a lot higher’ again, with the player destined for the Premier League.

That’s according to TV presented Hans Kraay junior, who says the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo has made the likelihood of Gakpo moving to Manchester United a possibility.

Gakpo was linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the summer transfer window, but they ended up focusing on other targets, paying big for Ajax’s Antony instead.

In the meantime, Gakpo has been continuing his fine form from last season, bagging 13 goals and 17 assists in 24 games this season and two at the World Cup with the Netherlands.

That, coupled with the departure of Ronaldo, which has opened up a big gap in Manchester United’s finances, has led to them being heavily linked again over the last week.

It was first claimed that United intended to push for the signing, with it then made clear that talks would be held after the World Cup.

That was followed by a further claim today that Erik ten Hag was determined to secure Gakpo’s signature as he looks to rebuild Manchester United’s forward line.

Now Kraay has had his say on the matter, insisting that Gakpo is as good as gone from PSV and that Old Trafford is increasingly likely to be his destination.

“Gakpo is gone. PSV are not going to keep him, and cannot keep him anymore,” he told ESPN.

“Gakpo will soon be playing in the Premier League. The chance that it will be Manchester United is now a lot higher again, because Cristiano Ronaldo has left.

“They have even more money available. At Liverpool, assistant Pepijn Lijnders is charmed by him, so he is chasing Jürgen Klopp. Yes, Gakpo is gone.
