In the last transfer window, reports coming out of Germany explained Manchester City are among the clubs interested in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria.
Neither the Citizens nor another side came forward to sign the midfielder in the summer, but that may change at the end of this season.
That’s because the 24-year-old’s contract expires in 2022 and he’s not signed an extension so far with the Bundesliga side.
AS Roma were one of the clubs that tried to sign the player, after failing to take Granit Xhaka away from Arsenal. Despite last summer’s disappointment, the Serie A side are still in the picture to take Zakaria.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who add that José Mourinho’s side are set to face competition from the Premier League winners to secure the Mönchengladbach player’s signature.
It’s said the Citizens are ‘ready to challenge’ Roma to sign the Switzerland international. Pep Guardiola’s side coming forward for Zakaria ‘changes everything’ for the Giallorossi.
Roma would not be happy with City planning to challenge them in the Zakaria transfer battle.
