Benfica have reportedly set a price for the sale of the left-back Alex Grimaldo as they wait for Manchester City to come with an offer.

According to Thursday’s edition of O Jogo, the player’s price would be of €45m.

CapturarIt may look expensive, but it’s still less than expected. That’s because Grimaldo has a €60m release clause, and as Portuguese clubs normally push for something close to it, they’re being a bit more realistic this time.

Benfica are said to be convinced they’ll lose the player before next summer, and that’s why they’re already looking for replacements.

Grimaldo signed for Benfica from Barcelona in January. The €1.5m player wasn’t impressive in his first months, but ended of having a great start of season, taking the spot of the long-time starter Eliseu.

That’s when Manchester City are said to have started watching him. The scouts travelled several times and now Pep Guardiola’s side are expected to come with an offer soon. According to Record, the left-back position is one of the English team’s priorities.

Grimaldo has two goals and three assists in eight appearances in the Portuguese league. Other English clubs have also been linked to him in the past few months.

It’s worth noting that in September there were many reports in Portugal claiming Guardiola had travelled undercover to watch Grimaldo. Sport Witness were informed at the time that these claims were simply untrue.
