Back in January, when Manchester City signed Julian Alvarez from River Plate, the striker had just finished a great season with the Buenos Aires side, in which he scored 24 goals.

Despite the purchase, the clubs agreed that the youngster should stay in Argentina at least until the middle of the year. Now it turns out that the past few months haven’t been so great for him.

Julian Alvarez hasn’t scored since March 13th, which means he entered an eight-game drought. And it turns out this isn’t only something being pushed around the Argentine media, as manager Marcelo Gallardo seems to be worried about it as well.

In River Plate’s last game against Atletico Tucuman, when the Buenos Aires side were given a penalty, the coach could be seen screaming at the sideline asking for Alvarez to take it. He was trying to help the striker to find the goal again, and the players couldn’t hear him.

Speaking of Gallardo’s issues today, Clarin writes: ‘The youngster that Manchester City bought needs the goal. And River need his goals.’

Julian Alvarez is having his final matches for River Plate before he joins Manchester City, and it turns out he could end up leaving the Argentine club in disappointing form.

With Pep Guardiola’s side being strongly linked to Erling Haaland recently, the South American media has even been wondering if the youngster will be able to have minutes for Pep Guardiola’s side, as the Spanish press already claims there are La Liga clubs interested in signing him on loan.
