Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus is ‘in the running’ to replace Luis Suarez at Atletico Madrid this summer, should the Uruguayan leave as expected.
That’s according to Sport, who say the Brazilian is on the list of options being looked at by the Spanish club to replace Suarez.
He’s expected to leave the Wanda Metropolitano this summer when his contract comes to an end, with his goalscoring numbers having taken another downward turn this season.
At 35-years-old it is clear that he will need to be replaced and Diego Simeone and co have ‘several strikers in the running’ to do so.
The newspaper explains that the Brazilian has never been able to ‘establish himself’ at the Etihad, and a change of scenery ‘could reactivate his role’ in a big European club.
The major problem for Atletico is that he has never been a consistent goalscorer, which is what Atletico need to replace Suarez.
However, the major plus point is that he is young and has ‘versatility’, something Simeone has shown he values highly.
The is also the belief that Manchester City ‘will be more willing’ to sell him this summer if they sign the number nine they are chasing. At the moment, that appears to be Erling Haaland, while they have already completed a deal for Julian Alvarez.
That means increased competition for Jesus, who might want to find regular gametime elsewhere and thus be available should Atletico look to make a move.
