Argentine coach Marcelo Gallardo is ‘well aware he is a temptation’ for Leeds United and other clubs as they hunt for their new manager.

That’s according to the Argentinian edition of Marca, who cover the manager today and whether he could end up at Elland Road.

Reports have put Gallardo on Leeds’ three-man shortlist of candidates to replace Jesse Marsch, who was sacked earlier this week after a poor run of form left the Whites on the brink of the relegation zone.

Gallardo is highly regarded following his eight year spell at River Plate, which was one of the most successful in the club’s history.

It is his work there has put him on Leeds’ radar as they hunt for their next boss but it has been made clear the Argentine is not option A for Victor Orta and co.

Marca back that up but state that while he is ‘only one’ among the current list of managers, he is also the only one they ‘can sit down and talk’ to ‘without any problems’. That is not the case for Andoni Iraola and Arne Slot, who are both in jobs with Rayo Vallecano and Feyenoord.

Gallardo, on the other hand, is ‘still resting’ after his spell with River and he is ‘not desperate’ to return to work in the immediate future either.

He has already turned down an approach by Ajax a few weeks ago and is well aware that he is a ‘temptation’ for several teams in Europe.

Being without a club means the power is in his hands and it ‘gives him facilities’ that he would not have were he contracted to a club.

It is because of that he is in no rush to return to work.

It seems, then, that were Leeds to turn to him, they face a fight to convince him that coming back at this point to lead their fight against relegation would be a smart choice.
