On Tuesday, we covered the reports from Portugal saying Sporting would be interested in bringing Islam Slimani back from Leicester City on a loan deal in January.

As the news was on the front page of A Bola, it’s received serious attention, to the point where the Sporting manager Jorge Jesus was asked about the possible Leicester swoop.

Speaking at a press conference, Jesus said: “Every club in the world takes advantage of the winter market to make adjustments. It’s just that some teams have more money than others. I don’t like to talk about players who are not in Sporting.”

“Slimani is a beloved player for the club. We know Slimani isn’t playing, but we do not have data to say anything. Now he’s a beloved player for his colleagues, coaches and supporters. They want him here, I understand.” (via A Bola)

A Bola’s report claimed Slimani wants to leave Leicester, especially because of the little playing time he’s getting at the club.

But although Sporting’s wish to bring him back exists, it was said there are other clubs who would like to sign him.

It wouldn’t be a surprise that both Slimani and Leicester would prefer to keep him in the Premier League, which is obviously a best showcase for a permanent transfer in the summer.

But for now, the Lions are the only club named by the newspaper.
