Sevilla manager Jorge Sampaoli has made a ‘request’ to the club for them to sign Tottenham’s Bryan Gil on loan in the January transfer window.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the Argentine coach is targeting a winger and would like that to be his former player.
The newspaper say that the Tottenham man is Sampaoli’s ‘winger of choice’ for next month and Sevilla have ‘initiated contacts’ with Spurs to bring the winger back to the club.
They explain that Sevilla are looking to bring in players next months following the departure of Isco, whose contract has been terminated.
Sampaoli has made ‘several requests’ and a new winger is one of them. Gil is the player he would like to sign, with the player an ‘old acquaintance’ after coming through the youth ranks during Sampaoli’s first spell in charge.
He is ‘not enjoying minutes’ at Tottenham and that has alerted Sampaoli, who was keen to give the youngster his debut when he was last in charge, but the circumstances were not considered ideal.
He now wants to be reunited, even on a temporary basis, and a deal makes double sense for Sevilla as he counts as a homegrown player.
That would allow Sevilla to have one more space in their squad for the Europa League, adding further benefit to the potential deal.
