On April 3rd, several English publications reported that Manchester United are planning a summer clear out and Juan Mata could be one of the players who is heading towards the exit door.
The Spaniard has less than three months left on his contract at Old Trafford and Sky Sports explained the former Chelsea star is ‘in talks over a move to Barcelona.’
Journalist Miguel Rico, writing on the back page of Thursday’s edition of Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo takes a look at the claims linking the 30-year-old with the La Liga winners.
Mata will turn 31 on April 28th and Rico says the attacker is a ‘very good player’ and ‘extraordinary person’.
He explains Mata’s father and agent were in the offices of Barcelona ‘a few months ago’ for some kind of talks.
Unfortunately for Mata, his signing was ‘discarded’ by Barcelona because the position in which he plays is thought to be well covered at the Camp Nou.
With his Manchester United future far from defined, Mata has no other option than to think seriously about options for a move this summer.
