Over the course of the summer, it was no secret that Manchester United wanted to bolster their defence with new players.
Erik ten Hag wasn’t happy with the squad at his disposal when he first arrived at Old Trafford, and the Dutchman quickly asked those above him to find him some players.
The club eventually went after Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez, but there was another player Manchester United were looking at in Benjamin Pavard, going as far as making an attempt for him.
This was reported in various outlets, including Sport 1 in Germany, who explained both the Red Devils and Chelsea expressed interest in the player.
He never left, though, hoping to play more this season at Bayern Munich, but that hasn’t been the case, with him coming off the bench once again at the weekend.
In fact, Sport 1 have an article on the matter, explaining the defender is showing ‘frustration’ at his current situation.
They recall he already ‘gave serious thought’ to leaving in the summer, especially after his club bought Matthijs De Ligt, but a good pre-season and Julian Nagelsmann praising him stopped a move.
The problem is, with the new arrivals of the Dutchman and Noussair Mazraoui, Pavard has only stared two thirds of the games in the Bundesliga, which he doesn’t feel is enough.
That’s why, at this point, ‘neither the club nor the player are very interested in extending’ the player’s contract, with no talks taking place.
Still, with Manchester United and Ten Hag still looking to improve the defence, perhaps January could bring some happiness for all involved?
