Loaned to PSV at the start of the season, Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite isn’t getting plenty of playing time in Eredivisie.

Now it turns out that with only 485 minutes in 10 appearances so far, that could end up resulting in a potential return to the Goodison Park in the January window.

That’s something today reported by Dutch outlet Voetbal International. They point out that as ‘contractually stipulated’, Everton can bring back the player, and PSV ‘cannot stop’ him from leaving.

That’s because of a clause in his contract which says that in case Branthwaite doesn’t get a certain number of matches, then the loan can be cut short.

This was already hinted at this weekend, with it said Everton were considering doing this.

The story still claims there’d be ‘no panic’ at PSV in case that happens, because besides not making much use of the defender, they’ll also have the return of Olivier Boscagli in January.

That would only result in Branthwaite getting even fewer minutes on the pitch, so it may make sense that Everton choose to bring him back in the middle of the season.

His contract with the Toffees runs until 2025.
