Plastered all over the back pages of British tabloids and European newspapers, Paul Pogba’s meeting with Zinedine Zidane in Dubaï was ‘by chance’.
That’s what L’Equipe on Monday are claiming, and why would they lie? After all, it would be in their interest to hype it up and make it a bigger story than it is.
However, that’s not what they do, even if they make one thing very clear: Zidane would still like to see the Manchester United midfielder at Real Madrid with him.
Looking ahead to Tuesday’s Champions League game against Galatasaray, the French newspaper explain Pogba remains the manager’s ‘absolute priority’ in the Spanish capital, and claim the way games have gone since the start of the season ‘prove him right’.
Do they have another €150m to spend? Perhaps, but it’s not a decision they will take lightly, and we all know how reluctant United will be to let their star go, especially when they are struggling in the second half of the table after a poor start to the 2019-20 campaign.
This will rumble on all season, throughout January and into next summer. And maybe even beyond that.
