Despite rumours to the contrary, Manchester United have not made any sort of move to try and sign Weston McKennie from Juventus.

It’s no secret that both clubs have recently been in talks over the transfer of Adrien Rabiot, but those have since been called off due to the excessive demands from the player’s end.

That means Manchester United have now failed, so far, to sign either Frenkie de Jong and the Frenchman, which has led to other targets being looked at.

Rumours of a move for McKennie emerged, but Florian Plettenberg, a journalist for Sky Germany, took to Twitter to clarify the situation.

He said ‘there is no official request from Manchester United at this stage’, although that doesn’t mean the USA international would be against a move.

That’s because the Red Devils ‘would be an interesting club for him’.

Despite all this, the feeling is that ‘the player is likely to stay at Juventus this season’, where he is said to have a good relationship with his manager, Max Allegri.

This isn’t the first time McKennie has been linked with a move to the Premier League, as there was a time when Tottenham, managed by Antonio Conte, were keen on his services back when he was still on the fringes of the Serie A side’s squad.

That has now changed, and it’s expected that he won’t be moving before the end of the month unless, of course, Manchester United do something extravagant.

As for why a German journalist would have information on this matter, it’s worth recalling that prior to his move to Juventus, McKennie spent four years at Schalke 04.
