Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United in November has forced them to look for a new No.9 in the winter market.

Erik ten Hag has publicly urged the Red Devils to sign a striker this month so that he has more options in attack for the second half of this season.

Recent claims in the English press have stated Manchester United have identified Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as one of their targets. He has entered the last six months of his contract at Bayern Munich.

Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg took to Twitter to state the Premier League side’s interest in the 33-year-old is ‘concrete’.

Despite ‘intensive’ courting from Manchester United, a deal may be difficult to take shape in January due to the Bavarian club’s position. Julian Nagelsmann’s side have been linked with a handful of strikers, but Plettenberg states their focus is on extending the Cameroon international’s contract.

The journalist doesn’t mention whether the player wants to sign a new deal at Bayern or if he favours a move to Old Trafford, either in January or next summer.

Choupo-Moting has 11 goals and three assists from 16 appearances in all competitions this season.
