It’s hard to believe anything José Mourinho says these days, but when it comes to David De Gea’s future, it feels like the Manchester United manager might be telling the truth: the Spaniard is not for sale.

Too important to the club, the goalkeeper has been the club’s most consistent performer over the past few seasons and it feels like losing his ability between the sticks would be the biggest blow to the club since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

However, if Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday are to be believed, Manchester United appear to be preparing for every possible outcome this summer, even asking around about other goalkeepers, including AS Roma’s Alisson.

The Brazilian, who has been the Serie A side’s revelation this season, has attracted interest from a multitude of clubs around Europe, including Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, even if Monchi isn’t exactly keen on selling the club’s new star, and would prefer for him to sign a renewal.

Having reached the Champions League semi-final, the Italian side aren’t as desperate for cash as they once were, meaning there’s no obligation to sell this summer.

Gazzetta believe Alisson’s price tag ‘oscillates’ at around €70m, which would easily make him the most expensive goalkeeper of all time; at least until someone triggers Jan Oblak’s €100m clause.

If Manchester United did indeed ask about the AS Roma goalkeeper, it’ll most likely be as a precautionary measure.
