Manchester City and Barcelona will be looking to strengthen the centre-back position this summer.
The La Liga side have identified City’s Eric García as one of the main candidates, but the Citizens are keen on retaining him, and are also planning to offer a contract extension.
Villarreal’s Pau Torres is another player who has been on the radar of both clubs, according to Mundo Deportivo.
It’s claimed the 23-year-old is liked by the Catalan club’s technical leaders, and in the last few weeks they have established contacts to ask about his transfer.
Quique Setién’s side, however, will find it ‘difficult’ to sign the Spaniard because of his price tag and City’s interest in the player.
Villarreal, who have no desire to sell the player, are demanding €65m, and are not ready to lower the price tag.
In addition to this, the Yellow Submarine are also unwilling to agree a swap deal with the Camp Nou side.
City, on the other hand, have ‘not lost track’ of Torres, and Mundo states Pep Guardiola’s side plan an ‘offensive’ to sign him this summer.
Torres has two goals and an assist in 34 league matches in the recently concluded domestic campaign.
