Manchester City have ‘joined the battle’ for FC Midtjylland’s Ousmane Diomande, according to BT in Denmark.

Last summer, the 19-year-old joined second division Portuguese side Mafra on a season-long loan deal.

The defender’s loan spell at Mafra has been so successful that Arsenal, Southampton, Benfica and Sevilla have all made moves for him. Manchester City have also joined the chase.

It’s claimed the English champions have held talks with Midtjylland about the centre-back ‘several times this week’, on Monday and Tuesday. However, Pep Guardiola’s side have not yet made an offer for him.

Sporting are also in the mix. They made a €5m bid last week and have further raised their offer by close to €3m on Monday. This is because of their desire to secure Diomande’s services and the fact that Manchester City have made contact with Midtjylland.

Despite interest from Guardiola’s side and others, BT state the case leans more and more towards the player’s sale to Sporting. The Lions have held positive talks with the Danish club and the two teams could agree a deal for around €10m.

Although Sporting seem to be ahead, the report makes it clear the saga is not over yet, which could give some hope for Manchester City.
