With Julen Lopetegui now announced as the new Wolverhampton Wanderers manager, the Spanish media are starting to get some transfer rumours going.

We fully expect some Portuguese players to be thrown in the mix at some point, especially since the manager’s agent is a certain Jorge Mendes, but, for now, it’s Real Madrid players linked.

We already covered the Mariano Diaz story, but Estadio Deportivo in Spain have decided to expand on it, explaining that Lopetegui ‘wants to fulfil the dreams he could not as a Sevilla manager’ with Wolves.

Part of that is being reunited with two players, because during his time in charge of the La Liga club, he ‘showed interest in Mariano Diaz and Nacho Fernández’, seen as ‘financially impossible’ to get at his previous club.

Now, his interest in them ‘has resumed’ after taking over at Wolves, and the Dominican would already ‘be almost convinced’ of the move, especially since we all know the Premier League club need a striker.

As for the centre-back, he is one Lopetegui has ‘always considered top level’, and is ‘very much to the coach’s liking’.

Furthermore, by signing the two at Wolves, he could do Florentino Pérez a ‘great favour’, as Nacho’s contract expires in the summer, and the trust he has shown in him in the past ‘could be a determining factor’ for him to ‘accept the important step of playing’ in England’s top-tier.

Since Wolves ‘have money’ and are committed to give Lopetegui the tools needed to get away from the relegation zone, this could be an ideal time to get the two players.
