As soon as initial reports saying Ruben Amorim was of interest to West Ham United surfaced, part of the Portuguese media made it clear they didn’t think it was a position he should accept.
Many pundits have been claiming that while he fights for titles and plays in the Champions League at Sporting, the coach would not have such opportunities with the Hammers.
Now as it seems the conversation with West Ham didn’t go very well, more people show up to comment negatively about the Hammers. The latest is Maniche, who spoke to CNN Portugal, and is quoted by Bancada.
The former Chelsea player pointed out that Amorim has a better life in Portugal, with the climate helping that.
“I’ve lived in London. And if it comes to quality of life, I prefer Lisbon. At 4pm, London is a grey city with rain. So I’d even prefer Lisbon,” said Maniche.
“If you also look at the stadium, it’s modern, yes, but Sporting has also renovated. It’s a beautiful stadium, with emotion, when you enter the pitch there’s a fantastic, chilling anthem. Between West Ham and Sporting I wouldn’t leave Lisbon. If that’s the case, I wouldn’t even leave.”
Most of the Portuguese media today has been claiming that Amorim is going nowhere for now, as both the contacts with West Ham and Liverpool did not have a happy ending.
The manager is about to lead Sporting in a very important league game against Porto, which can nearly give them the title, so it’s natural that his future will only be decided after that.
