Liverpool are ‘weighing up the opportunity’ to sign Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio as he looks to leave the Spanish giants.

That’s according to ABC, who say Asensio is ‘on the market’ and unhappy with the lack of playing time he is receiving under Carlo Ancelotti.

They explain that the lack of an appearance against Sheriff in the Champions League was a ‘blow’ for Asensio, whom felt he had earned a bigger chance after a hattrick against Mallorca.

But the Italian manager’s failure to use him was symptomatic of the ‘harsh reality’ he is living at the club where he is no longer a starter and clearly not on Ancelotti’s good list.

He’s ‘pondering’ his future at the club as a result as his prospects of turning the situation around ‘all seems very difficult’.

He has also been put on the market, and clubs around Europe have been made aware of his situation, including Liverpool, who are ‘weighing up the opportunity’.

They have ‘tempted him before’ and could look to try and take advantage of the fact that by January, he will be in the final year of his contract.

That means Real Madrid will be forced to sell if he doesn’t renew his contract, as they would then face losing him on a free transfer the following year.

January will be Asensio’s first opportunity to change clubs and get the minutes he wants; if not, then he will have to consider his future in the summer instead.

Whether Liverpool will be there in either window isn’t made clear, but the interest is there, with the suggestion that they’re keen building in Spain over the last few weeks.
