On November 6th, Globo Esporte stated Liverpool were one of the clubs who watched André in action for Fluminense in their Copa Libertadores’ final victory over Boca Juniors. It was also stated his sclub are expecting to receive offers worth around €35m in January.
The Reds showed keen interest in the midfielder in the summer and had made an offer, which was confirmed by the player himself. He had also stated it was ‘very difficult’ for him to reject the Merseyside club.
A ‘confidential’ report from today’s Sport points out Liverpool’s failed attempt to sign the 22-year-old in the last window.
Barcelona need to bring in a new midfielder next year, and aren’t the only club looking to strengthen that position. Sport state European clubs ‘want to anticipate’ operations in January, and André is one of the players who has aroused interest from several clubs.
Interested clubs will watch the Brazil international live during this month’s international break, and also during the FIFA Club World Cup next month.
Fluminense, for their part, consider André ‘lost’. The newspaper claims he’ll move to Europe in the winter market, ‘no matter what’, and only Jürgen Klopp’s side are mentioned as a contender.
Sport say Liverpool have ‘taken the lead’ in the race to sign him but ‘nothing has been decided yet’. In other words, a final decision is yet to be made.
They end the report by stating; ‘His transfer will serve to visualise how the midfielder market evolves and is valued, which Barca observes carefully.’
Previously, claims from Brazil stated Liverpool were having second thoughts, partly due to the player’s physicality.
