Back in September, Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen had revealed that his family will be involved when he decides his future with Sweden.
The 33-year-old made his debut for Sweden in 2015 and has been their first-choice stopper for several years.
As usual, Sweden coach Janne Andersson has included Olsen for this month’s international break, and this gave TT an opportunity to have a chat with him. The Aston Villa man has made a decision on his future with the national team, and his comments are relayed by Fotboll Direkt.
Olsen has revealed he’s received the backing from his family to continue representing his country.
“I have to take the family into account as well, but if I have to choose, I’m not done. I absolutely want to continue. I think the wife at home also wants me to continue. It means an incredible amount. I also think that I showed it in the matches that it means a lot,” he said.
The Aston Villa goalkeeper has made 69 appearances for Sweden, keeping 31 clean sheets and conceding 74 goals in the process. He also told Fotbollskanalen about his desire to continue with the national team.
“We are waiting for our third child and we will see. It’s a good time for the next collection [international break] and a lot can happen. But if you ask now and I have to tell you, I’m not ready to leave this,” Olsen explained.
“It’s been so good these years I’ve played here and it’s fun. I have to take the family into account too, but if I have to choose now, I’m not done.”
When asked what could change his decision, he said: “It’s likely that all three children are causing chaos at home while I’m away. But I actually don’t know. I don’t think I’m done.”
At Villa Park, the Swede is the second-choice goalkeeper, behind Emiliano Martínez, and has been restricted to four appearances this season.
