Liverpool have been drawn into the developing race for Hamburg’s Mario Vuskovic, having recently sent a scout to watch the German side.

Vuskovic is considered a ‘jewel’ by Hamburg and has been attracting interest from the Premier League, with Brentford and Wolves both credited with an interest.

For the time being, they are resisting any interest in the player, but that appears to be growing, a BILD report today.

They say that during the recent clash with Braunschweig, the scouts ‘crowded the last row’ of the main stand in the stadium.

They even detail where those scouts were from: two came from Wolfsburg, Frankfurt, Freiburg and Stuttgart, while Liverpool, Burnley and an unnamed Italian club also ‘sent observers’.

That led to ‘immediate speculation’ that they were all there to watch Vuskovic, but there is no confirmation on that front.

He is, however, the player with the ‘greatest potential’ and thus the one they were likely there to look at.

At the moment, despite the rumours, no club has contacted Hamburg about a move.

There has been no ‘official enquiry’ from anyone, and the German side are insistent they won’t sell for the €10m being suggested anyway.

They’re not interested in letting the defender go as they consider him the central building block to their efforts to return to the Bundesliga, and the player is also happy where he is.

Thus any talk of a transfer is wide of the mark for the time being, even if Liverpool have been to scout him.
