Portuguese newspaper Record has an article this Monday talking about Liverpool’s reported interest in Victor Lindelof, which was originally published by the Daily Mail.
The first claims suggested that Jurgen Klopp is said to be a fan of the defender, and PSG and Inter Milan would be in the race for him.
But Record’s response to Daily Mail’s information is to say that Lindelof is more likely to stay.
O Jogo has an article about Lindelof today too, and although it’s focused on PSG’s talks for him, the answer is the same: Benfica want him to stay.
The newspaper highlights Lindelof’s quotes from early September, when he said: “I have a further four years of contract, but it’s always possible to renegotiate it. I’ve already said a long time ago that I intend to stay at Benfica. And I think Benfica want me too. I like the club and want to develop myself here as a player.”
The price is obviously a bargain for a good defender these days, and that’s why the Portuguese side are in a hurry to get him to sign a new contract. Lindelof, on the other hand, is in a very good position.
He’s open to getting a pay raise, and Europe’s biggest clubs are after him in case he doesn’t.
But there’s a big choice to be made too, a new contract and pay rise would come with a higher clause, perhaps even €60m, which would make an exit far more difficult in the future.
