Naby Keita ‘won’t talk’ with Liverpool regarding a new contract at the club before the January transfer window.
That’s according to journalist Christian Falk, who also says that a potential swap deal in January with Borussia Dortmund for Jude Bellingham is not on the cards.
Keita is out of contract at Liverpool in June next year and is yet to enter talks with the club about extending his stay at the club.
He’s been at Liverpool since a €60m move from RB Leipzig in 2018 but struggled to hit the heights he enjoyed with the German side, and which prompted the Reds to pay such a big figure for him.
He has been linked with a return to the Bundesliga next summer, when he could be a free agent if he doesn’t sign a new deal at Anfield.
He will be free to negotiate with clubs around Europe in the winter transfer window and Falk reports that the midfielder has decided he ‘won’t talk’ with Liverpool ‘before January’.
That suggest Keita is biding his time to see what offers will be available for him, and potentially use them as part of negotiations with Liverpool, who will be keen to avoid losing him on a free.
What won’t be happening in January is a swap deal with Dortmund, with Falk also dismissing that out of hand.
