Earlier this month, we covered an interview from Moussa Sissoko with FC Nantes’ podcast, who looked back on his time at Tottenham, where he spent a large chunk of his career, during which he faced Arsenal numerous times.
He arrived at Spurs very late during the 2016 transfer window for a big fee of around £31.5m, and stayed there for five years before leaving in 2021 for Watford.
He only spent a year with the Hornets, who then allowed him to leave following relegation to the Championship, which is when he signed with his current team, FC Nantes.
Sissoko made 202 appearances for Tottenham during his five seasons there, scoring five goals and assisting another 17, as he experienced a series of downs and then ups with the London side.
He reveals this in an interview on the FC Nantes YouTube channel as they prepared to play in the Europa League.
Sissoko said: “I’m going to get in trouble, but it was Arsenal when I was young, but when I signed for their enemies, Tottenham Hotspur, I stopped supporting them.”
The player then doubles down on this old affinity for the Gunners, claiming his idol when he was younger was Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.
Not only that, but he reveals that the first football shirt he got was an Arsenal one, with the Frenchman’s name on the back.
Sometimes, life throws curveballs at you, and in Sissoko’s case, it was to end up playing for the rivals of the team he supported as a childhood, as he enjoyed many good moments at Tottenham, including two wins over the Gunners in 2020.
