Liverpool and Newcastle are in the mix to sign Sporting’s Gonçalo Inácio in the summer window, according to AS.

The centre-back was a regular for the Lions last season, where he managed four goals and three assists from 52 games. His fine displays have caught the attention of Liverpool and Newcastle.

Having looked at the 21-year-old in the winter market, the Reds would ‘again try to close’ the deal for him in this window.

It’s claimed Jürgen Klopp is looking for a new centre-back partner for Virgil van Dijk next season and the Sporting star is identified as a target.

AS say Newcastle are also interested in the Portugal international despite Fabian Schär and Sven Botman both impressing for them last season.

Eddie Howe’s side have qualified for the Champions League and want to further bolster their defence. This is where Inácio would be an option for them.

Liverpool and Newcastle will be joined by Arsenal as the newspaper says these three clubs are ‘trying to undertake’ a deal for Inácio, who’s time with his current employer ‘seems to be coming to an end’.

AS claim Sporting are ready to listen to offers for the player from €45m. They further add a potential summer deal won’t be easy because the Portuguese club are demanding the fee to be paid in one go.
