Liverpool legend Jan Molby is a big fan of Christian Eriksen, sometimes. The Dane changes his opinion on the Tottenham player to suit, so it can be quite confusing.

In April 2013, just before Eriksen joined Tottenham, Molby wrote in his Liverpool Echo column that Liverpool should would be doing a good deal if they signed him: “And if suggestions that he might be ready to make the same move I did all those years ago, and join Liverpool, are true, then I think the Reds would be getting a very good player.

“Eriksen, at 21, is at the stage now where he needs to take the next step. Ajax is a great club for developing young players – the most prolific in Europe according to a new study – but you can’t stay there too long.

“Eriksen’s development has been sharp, and he is growing with every game he plays. Now, he needs to step up a level and test himself further.”

Yet 3 months later, when Eriksen was on the verge of signing for Tottenham, Molby said: “I don’t believe Liverpool were ever interested in him [Eriksen].

“I liked him two years ago. He’s very talented. Perfect balance, and as two-footed as you’d ever want to be, but he has failed to take the next step.”

Rightio.

With Eriksen playing his way back into form. Molby has said in his column for Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet that he believes Tottenham’s improved form is no coincidence.

Eriksen managing to find the net recently has given him more confidence and as such the player can help Mauricio Pochettino’s side more: “He is not the only reason, but I do not think that it’s completely random that Tottenham’s good form comes now when he again resembles himself.”

Molby feels Eriksen is extremely important for Tottenham because, whilst the striker is effective, Harry Kane plays a ‘primitive’ role, meaning he needs a lot of creativity behind him.

Writing his column before the Manchester United match, Molby said that Eriksen hitting form could help Tottenham climb towards the table over the Christmas period, aided by Kane and Dele Alli.

Given his past turn of opinion, maybe Eriksen shouldn’t pay too much attention to praise from the Liverpool legend.
