Barcelona are eyeing a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes in the summer, and he is ‘among the club’s targets’ for next season but they may face a fight with Liverpool for him.
That’s according to claims in Spain, relayed by Sport, who say the relationship with super-agent Jorge Mendes could ‘unblock the operation’ for the Catalans.
They explain that the midfielder is a ‘very much liked’ at the Nou Camp, with those in charge at the club keeping an eye on the 24-year-old as they look to bolster their midfield for next season.
The Wolverhampton star is ‘very much in the board’s plans’ as Xavi is determined to add in that area of the team.
Nunes’ versatility and ability to play as both a midfielder and an attacking midfielder, or even play on the wing in some circumstances, means he could be a valuable asset.
He is a player that Xavi likes and could even replace the likes of De Jong or Franck Kessie if Barcelona decide to sell either player this summer.
His price tag would be a problem as Wolves paid €45m to sign him from Sporting Club de Portugal last summer and value him at the same price now, even after a difficult first year in the Premier League. They also seem unwilling to sell at this point.
There is also potential competition from Liverpool, who are ’keeping an eye on his situation’ as Jurgen Klopp plans a major overhaul of his midfield this summer.
Nunes is a player who has been named among the potential targets, with Liverpool having also been among his suitors before he moved to Wolves last summer.
They, therefore, could enter the fray if Barcelona make their move, with Nunes a player that both clubs like ahead of the summer transfer window.
