Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Joshua Kimmich’s situation at Bayern Munich, with Jurgen Klopp valuing him highly.

That’s according to journalist Christian Falk, who reports that Liverpool are firmly in the race for his signature if he becomes available.

Kimmich is set to enter the final year of his deal at Bayern in the summer and is yet to agree to an extension on that, leading to increasing speculation about his future at the club.

If an agreement cannot be struck, and at the moment there are no indications one will be, Bayern will be forced to sell in the summer to ensure they do not lose him on a free transfer.

A small list of suitors has been growing in the background as a result, with Kimmich still only 28-years-old but with massive experience and success under his belt after joining Bayern from VfB Stuttgart in 2015.

Liverpool are one of those keeping an eye on him, according to Falk, who reports that they are interested in a potential deal if it is there to be done, despite their efforts to completely rebuild their midfield in the summer transfer window.

“He’s in the final year of his deal at Bayern and they would like to celebrate a purchase price rather than lose him for free,” he said.

“They could lose if he does not extend. And that’s where Manchester City and Liverpool come in. Thiago is always injured at Liverpool FC and his contract is running out, Henderson has left, there is a bit of space in midfield and Jurgen Klopp of course knows how important Kimmich is.

“Schmadtke, the sporting director, has good connections in the Bundesliga. So, Klopp is also now in the race for Kimmich.”
