It might have been a couple of days late, but Liverpool fans got what they wished for this Christmas, and that’s Virgil van Dijk awkwardly holding a the club’s shirt in his (surprisingly small) living room to prove he’d be joining them in January.

However, there’s no reason to think Jürgen Klopp will stop there with the defensive reinforcements, as it appears the interest for Stefan De Vrij is still alive and kicking.

Corriere dello Sport are the ones mentioning it on Thursday, explaining the Reds are still ‘courting’ the Lazio defender alongside a handful of other European clubs like Inter and Barcelona.

Out of contract in June, De Vrij has a couple of options at his disposal, and so do Liverpool.

Both could agree on a deal for the summer that would see the 25-year-old move to Merseyside on a free, or he could ask Lazio to be sold in January, and with just six months left on his deal, there’s only so much the Serie A outfit will be able to demand.

Considering Liverpool have just spent £75m on one player, a cheap deal is likely the preferable outcome in all of this, and while other centre-backs have been mentioned as targets elsewhere, De Vrij seems like a very logical player to go for.
