Nicolo Zaniolo’s transfer from Galatasaray to Aston Villa this summer was again mentioned in the Italian media today.

The reason for that is an interview that TuttoMercatoWeb managed to hold with market intermediary George Gardi.

He was one of the representatives who worked on the deal between Galasataray and Aston Villa, and had a few more details to share about that transfer.

Gardi was asked by TuttoMercatoWeb about what he could share about that negotiation, and claimed that the Villans were far from being the only club to try the signing.

“Zaniolo came to Turkey to stay and play in the Champions League. His dream was also to play in the Premier League. As he is a valuable player, several offers were received for his transfer, including one from Italy, which was deemed not good enough,” said Gardi.

“Player and club decided together on the best solution, which is likely to be the biggest sale in the entire history of Turkish football, a player who could double in value for the club’s coffers in a few months.”

Zaniolo was initially loaned by Galatasaray to Aston Villa until the end of the season, with the Premier League side spending €5m on the temporary transfer.

The Villans are then set to have the obligation to buy him for €22.5m plus a potential €15.5m in performance bonuses, and that’s why he could end up being such a big sale for the Turkish side.

Speaking to the Italian media today, Zaniolo again hit back at criticism he’d received from the Italian media, largely when he was still an AS Roma player.
