In need of a centre-back this transfer window, Rennes have looked at a number of options.

Among those was Mohamed Salisu, who ended up at Southampton, and their search has evolved to targeting Jean-Clair Todibo at Barcelona.

However, if that doesn’t pan out, they have a backup plan involving Norwich City’s Ben Godfrey.

The young centre-back was one of the stand out performers for the Canaries in their disappointing Premier League season, attracting interest along the way, and a move to France could become an option if all the planets align.

This is according to Foot Mercato, who explain Florian Maurice, the French club’s technical director, has been following Godfrey for ‘a long time’ and is now ‘keeping an eye’ on him.

Unfortunately, the player’s profile and status in England means that his name ‘has been ticked by most big European clubs’, which has increased his price, making him ‘very expensive’ for a club of Rennes’ status.

It’s an option, but it seems the French side would have to pull out all the stops to get the Norwich starlet.
