On transfer deadline day, Leeds United were said to be ‘pressing most’ to sign William Remy from Montpellier. As clubs looked to get players in at the last minute, French newspaper L’Equipe stated Leeds and QPR were both interested in a quick deal for the defender.

Neither managed to get a deal over the line for Remy, and since then Leeds and QPR haven’t even been able to keep an eye on Remy, because Montpellier simply don’t pick him. In a situation which perhaps has more to it than meets the eye, Remy is excluded week after week.

Friday’s edition of L’Equipe states a January exit is on the cards for Remy, with there being interest from England. This time it’s Brentford with the name-check, with further unnamed interest stated.

It’s reasonable to believe Leeds and QPR are among the group, and the situation could expand to include further clubs. Dependent on competition, a Championship side shouldn’t have too tough a time signing Remy, with his contract expiring in June.

Indeed, as we’ve suggested at Sport Witness previously, there’s the chance of an early free transfer, with Montpellier surely aware the player’s value is currently around zero… such a scenario may have brought Brentford into the reckoning.
