Leeds United want summer signing Liam Bridcutt to become the new captain for Garry Monk’s team. Sol Bamba recently exited the club by mutual consent leaving the role vacant.

Radio Yorkshire have conducted a poll asking Leeds United supporters who should be appointed the club captain ahead of their West Yorkshire derby with Huddersfield Town this weekend. A massive 80% want Bridcutt to become Monk’s next captain despite only arriving on a permanent deal in the last window.

The former Sunderland midfielder’s closet challenger was Liam Cooper, who took 14% of the vote, whilst the remaining 6% was made up of a number of other Leeds United players.

Bamba recently left Leeds United after 18 months with the Championship club, and his exit has raised eyebrows with former Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn and ex Elland Road forward Andy Ritchie.

Redfearn said yesterday that it was a strange decision to let Bamba leave the club because he brought pace to the back four, whilst Ritchie was baffled as to why the Ivory Coast international had dropped so much down the pecking order.
