When a Leeds United website published a story (see above) on Thursday claiming Celtic had rejected a £3.7m offer from the club from Moussa Dembele there was obviously something wrong.

Leeds have the been butt of the internet joke for the past 24 hours or so thanks to their new badge disaster, and now it seems the Celtic rumour was invented as another joke.

Dembele is obviously worth more than £3.7m, so it immediately looked a joke based on the Celtic player, and that’s what it appears it is.

It seems Leeds United have been dragged into some internet banter between Rangers and Celtic fans.

The account below started the rumour and has a record of making jokes about Dembele and Celtic generally. Not content with the battle, albeit one-sided for Celtic, between Brendan Rodgers and Graeme Murty, Rangers fans have, like any others, got their own online approach.

It’s all social media fun and games and quite odd that it was picked up by a news source.

The (what we assume, we could be wrong) Rangers fan has a record of similar, as can be seen by the reply to a now-deleted tweet of his from December.

Come on, £3.7m for Celtic’s Moussa Dembele? Leeds United may have come up with that crest but they’re not so deluded.
