According to claims in the German media Stuttgart are looking to sign Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic, which could put doubts over the future of Alexandru Maxim. The Romanian international has been linked with a transfer to Leeds United in recent months.
Echo 24 have reported Stuttgart could look to move in on Chelsea’s Pasalic this summer, with the German side looking to strengthen their squad.
Hannes Wolf’s side achieved promotion to the Bundesliga last season, and the club are hoping to consolidate their place in the top flight by targeting the likes of Pasalic, and his compatriot Ante Coric.
Pasalic has just one year left on his contract with Chelsea, and his future with the Premier League side is uncertain after spending last season on loan with AC Milan.
If the youngster were to leave Chelsea for Stuttgart this would come as a boost to Leeds United in their pursuit for Maxim, with Pasalic’s arrival putting him direct competition with the 26-year-old, say Echo 24.
Leeds United have been showing an interest in Maxim since January, when the Championship side held initial talks with his agent. In the past few months the playmaker has continued to be linked with a move to Elland Road, with claims this month they were in talks to sign him.
However, Stuttgart were quick to play down reports of Leeds United approaches, but rumours of a move to Elland Road are likely to continue throughout this summer due to the player’s situation at Stuttgart.
Maxim looks surplus to requirements following recent comments from Wolf, and it seems he’s not in the plans of the Stuttgart manager.
