Leeds United are interested in Juventus’ Weston McKennie and have taken firm steps to sign him in the winter market.

On Wednesday, we relayed news from Italy the 24-year-old has said yes to the Whites, who are carrying out concrete negotiations with the Serie A side.

Leeds are serious about the midfielder and have sent an offer of around €28m to the Turin club. That’s according to Tuttosport, who state their bid is €7m short of Juve’s request.

Despite the difference, the two clubs continue contacts and it is not excluded that they could reach an agreement for the player’s transfer.

Over at Sky Italia, they explain the Premier League side’s proposal has arrived after the ex-Schalke man gave his approval to join them. Leeds have offered €28m, while Juve want €35m excluding bonuses.

Jesse Marsch’s side will not raise the proposal immediately because they do not face any competition. The feeling is that there could be a turning point in the deal on January 30th.

Alfredo Pedullà also claims Leeds have made an offer for McKennie, but the figure quoted is different to the one cited by Tuttosport and Sky. The former states the English club’s bid is €22-23m plus bonuses, while Juve want €30m fixed fee.

It’s claimed there should be a summit with intermediaries of the operation on Thursday to ‘arrive at a solution’ for this case. More developments could be expected later today.

At other times in the window it’s been claimed Juventus wanted €25-30m, and anything over that seems vastly ambitious.
