Unless you are an avid watcher of the MLS or the USA national team, the name Djordje Mihailovic will mean very little to you.
That being said, it’s one that is starting to make its way across the Atlantic Ocean, as the CF Montréal attacking midfielder is starting to catch the eye on this side of the world.
According to Jeunes Footeux in France, a number of teams, including Leeds United, are taking an interest in the 23-year-old, and with the recent change of manager at Elland Road, that isn’t all that surprising.
That’s not to say that Marcelo Bielsa might not have known about Mihailovic, but with Jesse Marsch now in charge of the Whites, it makes a whole lot more sense.
The manager from Wisconsin knows the MLS like the back of his hand, having managed there in the past at New York Red Bull for three years between 2015-18, around the same time as the attacking midfielder made his debuts for Chicago Fire, back during the 2016-17 season.
Going back to Mihailovic, Jeunes Footeux explain the midfielder, who scored four goals and assisted another 14 last year, is ‘being followed by numerous European teams’, with AS Roma, Bologna, Atalanta, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund all named, and Leeds United joining Everton and Newcastle from the Premier League.
They are all ‘attentively following’ the young American, born in Jacksonville, who is currently valued at €5m, although the website make it clear ‘he shouldn’t be sold for less than €8m’.
That’s very affordable for Leeds, who, should they stay up, will want to strengthen their team in the summer to both please Marsch and avoid a repeat of this year.
