The name Rolando Bianchi may not mean much to Manchester City fans under a certain age, but back in 2008, before the glory days of Sergio Aguero arrived, he was a relatively big striker signing for the English club.
Arriving from Reggina for more than €10m, big things were expected and Bianchi even managed to score on his debut. However, just months later he was sent on loan to Lazio before leaving Manchester City in a permanent move to Torino.
Bianchi didn’t exactly speak glowingly about English football during his brief time in Manchester, slamming the diet of players, their lifestyle choices, and saying he wanted to quickly leave the club and move to somewhere like Spain.
Now, looking back on his career, Bianchi has seemingly come to the conclusion that he was perhaps a little hasty.
Speaking to Calcio Today, the 39-year-old explained: “I learned a lot from the British, they are truly extraordinary at a working level. Perhaps my only major career mistake is leaving Manchester City too early.”
Atletico Madrid didn’t need to sign Bianchi, because they were doing rather well with a young man called Sergio Agüero
