With Palmeiras last evening confirming the Brazilian League title, we today see several stories about Gustavo Scarpa, who was one of their best players this season and is soon leaving them to join Nottingham Forest.

The midfielder is, so far, the assist leader in the league, and even though he only has one appearance made for the national team, back in 2017, there are people who’d like to see him in the World Cup this year.

That’s mentioned by UOL journalist Menon, as he features a column about players from the Brazilian League who deserved to be in the squad, and names Nottingham Forest’s new signing as someone who should be in the place of Manchester United and Aston Villa players.

Menons puts Scarpa as the first name in the list, and explains: “The League’s MVP. Aggressive and versatile player. Great in set pieces – Palmeiras’ lethal weapon – and also capable of playing as a winger on the left.”

Then, speaking of players who should not deserve a spot in the squad, he claims he would not take Manchester United’s Fred and Aston Villa’s Philippe Coutinho.

Despite confirming his exit from Palmeiras, Gustavo Scarpa is still to publicly speak of joining Nottingham Forest.

Last night, he spoke to Globo about his departure from Brazil, and detailed the many emotions he’s been through.

“I’ll miss all the friends I made at Palmeiras, I’ll miss everything it took me to conquer and to build within the club. Palmeiras is a lot of pressure. It took me a while to conquer my space. And now that I’ve conquered, that everyone is recognising my effort, I’ve made a decision that is a childhood dream: play in Europe, play in England.

“It’s a mix of emotions. My wife is pregnant, I’m going to another country. There are many emotions, one after the other. They are new cycles.”
