Borna Barišić is thrilled to be away with the Croatian national team, it’s part of the reason he joined Rangers in the first place, believing playing for Steven Gerrard’s team could help him get national recognition.
It happened quickly, and Barišić is so far loving life with Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, despite defeat to Celtic at the weekend. A big part of that is Gerrard, and speaking to the Croatian media, Barišić thought he could make comments which didn’t find their way back to the Rangers boss.
Novolist quote the player as saying: “We all know that Steven Gerrard won’t read this interview, so I don’t have to justify that I’m gonna praise him. He really left a great impression on me, because of his huge playing experience he knows exactly at what moment the team breathes, he knows exactly when and what to say. He brings to us his great football knowledge, tries to plant in us some things he does and it’s really great.
“Rangers have had some very unpleasant defeats lately, but this time we were practically equal with Celtic. I believe this team will only grow.”
Barišić enjoyed the Celtic match, even if he saw his team lose 1-0 to Brendan Rodgers’ men, thanks to a goal from Olivier Ntcham.
His brother and friends were in the stands for the game, sitting with the Rangers away support at Celtic Park because there was no VIP section available to them, and they enjoyed the Glasgow atmosphere too.
It’s early days, but Barišić could turn out to be a great signing for Rangers, and Gerrard could be great for the player.
