Lukas Nmecha, formerly of Manchester City, has revealed Vincent Kompany used to continually knock him down during training.

Nmecha spent the early days of his career with City, working his way up the youth ranks from 2015 and featuring for their Under 18s and Under 23s over the years.

He made it to the first team in 2017, making his debut in the EFL Cup before then making his debut in the Premier League by April 2018.

That saw him rubbing against some of the elite level players at the club, with the likes of Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero all at the club during his time there.

That’s excellent company for a young player to surround himself with, with those players all boasting a wealth of club and international experience for the Manchester City youngster to learn from.

Surprisingly, though, it was a defender, not a fellow forward, that Nmecha learned the most from during his time at the club, as he revealed to SportBILD.

“Vincent Kompany. When I was 18 years old, I often played against him in training at Manchester City,” he told them when asked who he learned ‘a lot from’.

“He always wanted to show me that I was still a little boy. Whenever I went past him, he knocked me down. But afterwards, I got tips from him.

“As a coach, he was even more important for me. He brought me to RSC Anderlecht last season and let me play as a centre-forward for a complete season for the first time.

“I have made huge steps.”
