At 5.15pm on Thursday evening, Bild’s Christian Falk arrived with something of a bombshell.

He tweeted that Timo Werner moving to Chelsea is ‘getting hot’, and that the RB Leipzig striker ‘should’ sign a contract at Stamford Bridge lasting until 2025. The deal was thought to be worth more than €10m per year in salary.

Bild then published an article saying the player would ‘probably’ be moving to Chelsea, and that RB Leipzig would be receiving Werner’s buyout clause, which is just under €60m.

Predictably, Kicker have now followed it up.

They claim Werner is now on the verge of a move to the Premier League club, and the transfer is ‘to be finalised next week’. Kicker state the clause only lasts until June 15th, hence why there’d be a rush from Chelsea to get everything finalised.

Liverpool have been linked with the player for around a year, yet it always felt more like the Reds interest was being pushed by the German media, at least when it really got going some months ago.
