Is Wayne Rooney Old Trafford’s Iker Casillas? That’s what Catalan outlet Sport are asking today, as they claim that José Mourinho’s treatment of the Manchester United star is similar to that received by the goalkeeper at the Santiago Bernabeu.
As the word at Manchester United (according to Sport) says the relationship between the two isn’t good already, the manager’s intention would be to force the player against the ropes with public opinion.
It’s even stated there’s going to be a ‘dirty war’ to win that public opinion.
We reckon Mourinho would already have a technical knockout on this one, which would make Sport’s claims a little wobbly. Just how much public opinion would Mourinho need, marches through the streets?
Sport’s source would sum up the situation as “what he did to Casillas in Madrid”, and that’s why the article uses such a comparison.
There’s no need to say that the Catalan press have a big history of winding up Mourinho, especially if they get a chance of bringing up the perceived bad things he did in Spain.
So they’ve found a perfect opportunity this time, it just seems they don’t know that public opinion already has Rooney on the ropes, and any kind hearted passer-by may be tempted to throw the towel in.
